Restorative
Practices

Owning Our Impact

At Ponderosa, we use alternative approaches for when things go wrong. We believe through a collaborative approach will work towards a solution that will heal rather than hurt. Check out how Ponderosa handles conflict below.

Ponderosa's Restorative Practices

Ember Circles

Ember Circles are small group conversations where we address what went wrong, how it made people feel, and what can we do to repair the harm caused. These circles are led by a Pinecone Pioneer and Ponderosa students, supported by an Ember Advisor.

Everyone in the circle gets the time and supports needed in order to come to a solution and restore our Ponderosa community. Everyone will be listened to and everyone will be values. It's an open frame towards rehabilitation.

Pinecone Pioneers

Pinecone Pioneers are student leaders who will help their fellow pinecones work through any conflict in a calm and supportive space. Pinecone Pioneers are trained to deescalate conflict using a number of methods to approach each conversation to the needs of the students. Any and all Ponderosa students are welcome to join!

Ponderosa Panel

When the harm caused is far too big to handle in our Ember Circles, we look towards the community and families to join us in rehabilitating our Ponderosa community. Every voice matters here, we provide the supports needed to ensure everyone can be heard. The goal is not to punish, it's to heal our community.
